A nice vegetarian recipe!
I did a search on the internet for bok choy recipes. Every recipe on the search seemed to be the same old tired thing. Garlic bok choy or ginger garlic bok choy. Boring! I just had to create a nice new bok choy recipe. Baby bok choy is very tender when cooked quickly and it has a very gentle flavor. Macadamia nuts add a nice tropical nut flavor and crunch!
Japanese Teriyaki Sauce Recipe:
Heat a small sauce pot over medium low heat.
Add 3 tablespoons of thin soy sauce.
Add 1 tablespoon of water.
Add 2 tablespoons of sugar.
Simmer and reduce, till a simple Japanese teriyaki sauce glaze is formed. The teriyaki sauce is finished when it can glaze the back of a spoon.
Set the teriyaki sauce aside.
Macadamia Bok Choy Recipe:
Have all the ingredients ready before starting the stir fry! Bok choy cooks quickly.
Heat a saute pan or wok over medium/medium high heat.
Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
Add 1 teaspoon of minced garlic.
Add 1 thin sliced shallot.
Add 1 teaspoon of minced ginger.
Add a few bite size green onion pieces.
Add a few thin julienne sliced red bell pepper strips.
Add 4 baby bok choy that are sliced lengthwise into halves or quarters.
Toss and stir fry the ingredients.
Add sea salt and white pepper.
Add 3 tablespoons of sliced macadamia nuts.
When the bok choy starts to wilt, add 2 ounces of dry white wine.
Boil and reduce the wine by half.
Add the Japanese teriyaki sauce.
Add 3 ounces of vegetable broth.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil.
Toss the ingredients together and cook till the bok choy starts to becomes tender. (About 1 minute.)
Arrange the bok choy on a plate and spoon the sauce over the bok choy.
Serve with some steamed rice on the side.
The flavor of the macadamia nuts infuses with the sauce. The semi sweet teriyaki sauce is very nice with bok choy. Shallots are commonly used in asian cooking and they come in several different flavor varieties. This is a very tasty simple bok choy recipe.
