Enchilada de Res and Pork Tamale at the Casa Don Juan Restaurant in Las Vegas!

Delicious!

The first time that I dined at Casa Don Juan was two days after the restaurant first opened.  I was one of two customers in the dining room having lunch that day.  The first impression of Casa Don Juan that I had was that the restaurant had great potential to succeed!
There are many great authentic Mexican restaurants in Las Vegas.  Starting a new Mexican restaurant and gaining a foothold can be difficult in Las Vegas, because of the high level of competition.  Casa Don Juan was noticed by Las Vegas newspaper food writers and the restaurant drew favorable reviews.  The word spread fast that good Mexican food and a pleasant atmosphere could be found at Casa Don Juan.  Casa Don Juan is now a very popular Las Vegas restaurant!
I wanted to go to Casa Don Juan today, because I remembered that the food was very good there and because the restaurant is located close to the Clark County Bar and Restaurant Supply Store.  With the high price of gas, knocking out two birds with one stone does help while I am on a student budget.  Casa Don Juan is located in Las Vegas at 1204 South Main Street at the intersection of West California Avenue.  Casa Don Juan is located near the north end of the Las Vegas Strip and it is close to Fremont Street downtown.
The last time that I was in Casa Don Juan was several years ago.  When I stepped through the doors today, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant was now lavishly decorated!  The dining room had the feel of a comfortable Mexican casa!  The dining room was very clean and well maintained.
Casa Don Juan takes pride in offering fresh authentic Mexican food that is made from scratch.  Nothing at Casa Don Juan comes from a can or is pre-made and frozen.  Casa Don Juan serves some very high quality Mexican food!
Another change that I noticed today, was that Casa Don Juan had a full house of customers for lunch on a Monday afternoon!  Casa Don Juan had become very popular with the local business owners and legal office professionals in the area.  The restaurant was very busy and that is a very good sign that a restaurant serves good food!  That also means that the food was probably at least as good as the first time that I dined at Casa Don Juan!
I do have an eye for restaurants that have the potential to succeed and Casa Don Juan is a great success story!
Complimentary fresh made tortilla chips, salsa and refritos were sat at my table when I was greeted with a menu by a waiter.  The salsa had a very nice flavor with accents of fresh cilantro!  The refritos were of very high quality.
In the dining room behind glass is an open view tortilla making station.  A girl works in open view making fresh tortillas all day!  The tortillas were some of the best hand crafted tortillas that I have ever seen!  The tortilla chips were fried in zero cholesterol frying oil.  The flavor was fresh and delicious!  While I was waiting for my lunch entree, I finished the entire basket of tortilla chips.
I ordered one of the lunch special du jour platters that featured freshly made tamales.  I chose the beef enchilada and the pork tamale platter for lunch.
The classic beef enchilada was perfectly prepared and very tasty!  The sauce was rather mild tasting by my standards, but not all Mexican enchilada sauce recipes are spicy.  The chile colorado sauce had tomato in it and that is also an option in authentic Mexican enchilada sauces.  The tomato flavor added a nice pleasant flavor to the sauce.  I was looking forward to having a good enchilada and the Casa Don Juan enchilada de res was superb!
Tamales are on a separate menu than the main lunch menu.  The tamale and enchilada combination was also on this special menu.  I am glad that I ordered the tamale, because it was one of the best that I have ever had!  Like many of the rest of the meat entrees, a choice of beef, chicken or pork tamale was offered.  A very refreshing pineapple tamale was also offered on the menu.
I chose the pork tamale, because I had a craving for slow cooked asado style pork!  The masa harina was perfectly prepared and it was not the least bit dry or old tasting!  The pork was full of great flavor!  The pork was so tender, that it easily shredded.  The corn husk tamale wrapper was hand tied tight, so no flavor would escape.  The pork tamale at Casa Don Juan was a very high quality tamale with an appealing savory mild flavor!
Some good Mexican style rice and refritos accompanied my lunch entree.  I mentioned that the spicy chile pepper level of my entrees was mild.  Casa Don Juan has bottled mild hot sauce and fiery hot habanero sauce at the table.  The habanero hot sauce is more than enough fiery spicy heat, if spicy hot is what you prefer!  It is rare that you see habanero pepper sauce offered as a table condiment in Mexican restaurants!
There are many great traditional Mexican breakfasts, soups, stews, seafood entrees and classic entrees on the menu at Casa Don Juan.  Refreshing tropical fruit milkshakes are also offered.  Casa Don Juan also has a nice selection of fine tequila.
My experience at Casa Don Juan was a very good one!  The food may cost a little bit more than some Mexican restaurants in the valley, but it is well worth the price.  Everything is made fresh with old fashioned authentic Mexican recipes at Casa Don Juan!  I honestly recommend Casa Don Juan as a great place to dine on old fashioned high quality authentic Mexican cuisine!  Yummy!  ...  Shawna
