Desayuno Sincronizada en la tortilla de trigo entero con Huevos
The gringo turista favorite, sincronizada, with an added egg for breakfast! Made with whole a wheat flour tortilla, so that it appeals to health conscious gringo turistas!
Believe me, I have cooked plenty of tourist food during my chef career. Especially in Florida. I don't particularly enjoy making food for the tastes of tourists! Tourist food is basically watered down mild flavors and common ingredients that appeal to the masses of people that are from the middle of the road American midwest. Blah and bland!
Many Mexican chefs feel pretty much the same way that I do about tourist comida. Sincronizada is a Mexican entree that is made for tourists. It is simply a grilled flour tortilla ham and cheese sandwich. Sincrinizada is really too bland for many Mexican diners to enjoy. Sincronizada is like a quesadilla, but the list of ingredients are specifically ham and cheese.
I decided to stick with the bland tourist food nature of sincronizada, when I modified this sincronizada entree for a desayuno (breakfast) entree. All that I added was 1 scrambled egg! I did use smoked ham to increase the flavor a little bit. These modifications turned the sincronizada into a fast food style breakfast sandwich that appeals to the Mexican gringo turistas!
You can garnish the desayuno sincronizada with lettuce, salsa, radishes, lime wedges, avocado, sour cream or guacamole. I chose to just garnish the sincronizada in the pictures above with only a simple mild tomato salsa. The sincronazada was also made with a whole wheat flour tortilla. Whole wheat flour tortillas are very appealing to health conscious gringos!
Mild Tomato Salsa Recipe:
Place 1 small diced Roma tomato in a small mixing bowl.
Add the white section of 1 green onion that is thinly sliced.
Add 4 thin chiffonade sliced cilantro leaves.
Add 1 teaspoon of finely chopped green jalapeno pepper.
Add sea salt and black pepper.
Add 1 teaspoon of rice vinegar.
Add 1 generous squeeze of lime juice.
Mix the ingredients together.
Set the salsa aside for 10 minutes, so the flavors meld.
Desayuno Sincronizada en la tortilla de trigo entero con Huevos Recipe:
Heat a small non-stick saute pan over medium/medium low heat.
Add 1 pat of unsalted butter.
Add 1 whisked egg.
Scramble the egg, till it is fully cooked.
Remove the pan from the heat.
Place 1 whole wheat flour tortilla flat on a counter top.
Sprinkle 1 small handful of grated jack cheese over 1/2 of the tortilla. (Oaxaca cheese, queso fresco or swiss cheese can also be used to make sincronizada.)
Place 2 to 3 ounces of thin sliced smoked ham on the cheese.
Spread the scrambled egg over the ham.
Sprinkle 1 small handful of jack cheese over the eggs and ham.
Fold the bare tortilla half over the egg, smoked ham and cheese half of the tortilla.
Heat a large saute pan or grill over medium/medium low heat.
Add 1 small splash of vegetable oil.
Place the desayuno sincronizada in the pan.
Grill both sides of the desayuno sincronizada, till they become crisp and golden brown.
Assembly:
Place the desayuno sincronizada on a cutting board.
Cut the desayuno sincronizada into 4 pie slice shape pieces.
Place the sesayuno sincronizada on a plate, so it looks like a 4 pointed star pattern.
Place the mild tomato salsa on the middle of the star pattern.
Sprinkle thin sliced green onion top over the plate.
Garnish the salsa with a cilantro sprig or Italian parsley sprig.
I have to admit, for tourist food, this breakfast entree tastes pretty good! The smoked ham adds a nice rustic flavor. Desayuno sincronizada is a turista style breakfast entree that is worth trying! Yum! ... Shawna
