Roast Duck and BBQ Pork at BBQ King in Chinatown, Las Vegas! Chinese BBQ!

Delicious!

BBQ King is a new restaurant in Chinatown Las Vegas.  They have been open for business for a while and they seem to already have built up a steady flow of clientele.  It is good to see a new restaurant do well in Las Vegas during bad economic times, because success is tough challenge these days.  For success in bad economic times, a restaurant has to offer food that people really want to pay to eat.  Everybody likes good authentic Chinese BBQ!  BBQ King picked the right cuisine to offer at the right time!
BBQ King is located in the Asian Pacific Plaza at 5700 Spring Mountain Road in Chinatown, Las Vegas.  The actual address for BBQ King is 5650 Spring Mountain Road and it is located between Lindell Road and Jones Boulevard.
When I walked through the doorway at BBQ King, the first thing that I noticed was the mouthwatering aroma of roast pork and roast duck!  BBQ King has a To-Go counter at the front of the restaurant.  Whole roasted ducks and Chinese BBQ pork were hanging on hooks in a heated glass display case.  The roast whole ducks and BBQ pork looked awesome!
One of the chefs at BBQ King noticed me staring at the roasted meat display case.  I was practically drooling over the roast ducks and BBQ pork!  The chef was a tall asian guy and he really looked like a master of cooking great Chinese BBQ.  After nearly 30 years in the restaurant business, I seem to have the ability to notice when a chef is an expert at what he cooks.  The tall chef asked a question in broken English or Chinese language and I did not quite hear what he said, so I responded by rubbing my belly and looking at the chef with a hungry looking expression on my face!
The chef waved to the manager of BBQ King to come over.  I guess that there was a little bit confusion, because I still had most of my chef uniform on after attending school earlier in the day.  Maybe the chef thought that I was looking for a job.  Who knows!  I would love to work in a good Chinese BBQ to get some good experience in that style of cuisine.  The manager briefly looked at me like I was there to apply for a job, but he was quick to notice that I was looking at the menu board.  The owner asked if I wanted to order food and I said yes!  Just like at any good Chinese BBQ, the next question was "For here or to-go?"
I was sat in a comfortable casual dining room that was well lit.  There was a hand written menu board that stretched across the entire wall!  I knew that I was going to experience some good authentic Chinese BBQ, because the menu board was written in Chinese!  The printed paper menu book at the table was written in English and Chinese, so it was easy for me to navigate through the extensive menu.
The menu started with the house specialties, which were chinese BBQ, roast duck, roast chicken and roasted specialty meats.  There were many regional Chinese cuisine items on the menu.  Classic Cantonese, Peking Duck, Mongolian, Hong Kong Specialties and several other styles of Chinese cuisine were offered.  Porridge, noodle entrees, soups and side dishes of every kind were on the menu.  I really liked the extensive selection of menu items, and it takes a good chef to be able to cook that many entrees.
There were many Chinese specialty items on the menu like chicken feet, roasted pig stomach and Chinese pork chitlins.  I really do enjoy seeing items like that on a Chinese menu and occasionally I like eating those items.  Las Vegas Chinese food is just like the food that is served in China.  Many visitors from China come to Las Vegas everyday, so Las Vegas Chinese restaurant menus offer food that is authentic.
One item that caught my attention on the BBQ King menu was the Chinese roasted whole pig section.  Roasted whole pigs are a highly sought after Chinese specialty!  The menu described the roasted pig as being large.  A large Chinese roasted pig is enough food to feed a very large party.  The prices on the menu may seem high for a whole roasted pig to the uninitiated, but you do get what you pay for!  I have attended banquets in Las Vegas where Chinese whole roasted pig was offered.  A whole roasted pig is perfect for a big family gathering or for a large party at a house!
Hot tea was included with the meal.  Even though the outdoor temperature in Las Vegas was over 85 degrees today, hot tea was nice to relax with.  In fact every customer in the dining room was drinking hot tea.  One thing that I noticed about the customers at BBQ King, was that there was some serous eating going on.  Everybody was digging into their food and smiling!  That is a good sign!
I ordered from the BBQ King specialty section of the menu.  I chose a two item combo platter of Roast Duck and Chinese BBQ Pork.  The duck was very moist and tender and it had a wonderful slow roasted flavor!  The basting sauce for the duck was indescribably delicious!  The Chinese BBQ pork had a very nice flavor and color.  The meat was tender and juicy.  This was some of the best Chinese BBQ pork that I have ever had!
A big covered bowl of steamed rice was served with the meal.  The rice was aromatic and sticky.  The jus and drippings from the roast duck and Chinese BBQ pork platter were great tasting with the rice!
The service was good and the waitress was helpful with describing the menu items.  The prices were nice at BBQ King and the portions were generous.  The dining room has a few decorations, but the decor was tastefully simple.  Authentic Chinese restaurant dining rooms tend to be simple, because the focus is on the food and the conversation at the table.  Family style dining is important in China and food is meant to be shared at the table.  BBQ King has the capacity to handle large parties or large tables for a big family.
I highly recommend BBQ King for visitors of Las Vegas and locals alike!  The menu is extensive and the Chinese BBQ food is great!
Chinese whole roasted large pig!  I have to bring a bunch of friends and family to BBQ King and surprise them with a Chinese whole roasted pig sometime!  Yum!  ...  Shawna
