A new modern gourmet burger chain! Smashburger!
I heard some good things about Smashburger of Las Vegas during the last few months, so I figured that I would give them a try. Many viewers of this food and recipe blog are die hard gourmet burger fans! Smashburger is a modern burger stand that offers burgers with trendy modern toppings and unique side dishes. Smashburger also offers choices of artisan crafted fresh baked burger buns for their burgers.
The side dish offerings are one of the attractions of Smashburger. Rosemary garlic and olive oil flavored french fries? That is something that no fast food style burger joint would ever attempt to cook. Smashburger is not fast food! Everything is cooked to order!
I tried the fried dill pickle chips with the burger, while I was at Smashburger. They were pretty good! Fried dill pickles have been a popular item at county fairs for the last ten years and many trendy restaurants have put them on their menus. Fried dill pickles are a nice alternative to french fries for a burger accompaniment.
Smashburger has opened a few locations in Las Vegas. I tried the Smashburger at 5655 Centennial Center Boulevard, by the intersection of Ann Road and Highway 95 in Las Vegas. I actually had to visit this Smashburger location twice and it was not by choice. On the first visit, I was passing by and I wanted to grab some to-go food to bring home, because I had a busy day. When I got home, I noticed that the Smashburger cook forgot to put a few of the toppings on my Sin City Smash. I wanted to post a few photos of the to-go order, but the burger was in no way representative of how it should have looked.
Needless to say, I was disappointed. I called that Smashburger store and I made a complaint to the clerk about how the Sin City Smash was missing a few toppings and it kind of looked like an ordinary hamburger. The clerk transferred me to a manager by phone and the manager said that a replacement burger was in order. That was kind of nice! I informed the manager that I would not be back in the area till the next day, so they took my name and said to stop by at my convenience to pick up a free replacement burger.
That kind of made my day! I like good customer service in the restaurant business. Good customer service will keep a customer happy. Lousy restaurants just hang up the phone on a customer that has a complaint. Apparently Smashburger intends to be a quality business and they do need to stay on their toes! Las Vegas is the burger capitol of the world and the burger stand business is very competitive.
One pitfall that Smashburger has already succumbed to is to get a little bit too aggressive with some of their locations, like the one at Centennial Center. Right across the street is a very popular burger stand that is rated as the second best burger stand in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. It is hard to compete with an established popular business on a common playing field.
Smashburger offers a great product that is very different than what the top two old fashioned burger stand chains offer in Las Vegas. Smashburger has already built up a loyal clientele base. They really do not have to be boldly competitive to become successful. Smashburger appeals to the trendy crowd that is no longer impressed with old fashioned hamburger stands and their products. Smashburger offers great burgers with trendy modern fun gourmet toppings!
I did return to Smashburger to get my replacement Sin City Smash. The manager greeted me and asked if I wanted anything with my burger. I said that I liked the rosemary garlic fries with the burger mistake on my to-go order, but I wanted to try the fried pickle chips. The manager asked what I wanted to drink. I placed my drink order and asked how much I owed for the side orders, since the replacement burger was already free on the house. To my surprise, the manager gave me the drink and side order for free with my replacement burger. He apologized for my inconvenience concerning the fouled up to-go order and for my bad experience. The manager said that it is more important to have a happy customer and hopefully this will make up for the bad experience. I actually said thanks!
The replacement Sin City Smash was made just like how it was supposed to be made. A Sin City Smash is a medium size burger with fried egg, applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, grilled onions, haystack onions and smash sauce on an egg bun. That is a nice combination of burger toppings!
The Sin City Smash was good tasting and it was very different than what the top two old fashioned burger stands offer. Smashburger is not an old fashioned burger stand. Smashburger is a modern gourmet burger stand that offers a nice menu of creative burgers!
The smash technique of cooking a burger does date back to how the original New York State Fair burgers were cooked in the 1890's. Smashing burger meat on a grill is a classic burger cooking technique!
I do give second chances and I have mentioned in past restaurant reviews that I have enough experience to realize that every restaurant has a bad day. Sure, my to-go order was a disappointment, but because Smashburger exhibited a good customer service policy, they deserve a positive review. I was very happy with the quality of the correctly made Sin City Smash!
I highly recommend Smashburger for locals and visitors of Las Vegas. Smashburger is a modern trendy burger stand that offers unique burgers and good old fashioned high quality customer service! Yum! ... Shawna
